Character Designs
During the ideation phase, I pitched in the idea of adding characters to enhance the theme’s visual direction—character-focused designs is not something the club has done before, often sticking with more abstract visuals So, I thought: What’s more Out of Place than unique character designs that stand out from each other? With the help of other designers, it helped make this edition a lot more livelier! I designed the frog farmer and paper girl from scratch, and also polished up the orange cat made by a different designer.

Designing as a Team
My co-lead and I took the visual assets made by the Gallery Team and made branding guidelines for our layout designers to use and refer to when designing pages. Working with a team of 14 students, I co-lead the team into printing and publishing 148 copies of the magazine, which were then distributed across the UW campus and Stratford School of Interaction Business and Design.

My Final Edition
Having a leadership role for such a big project made me approach challenges that put the experience of our team and audiences first, establishing an environment where creatives can share their work and have their inputs be heard. The Out of Place Edition was my final CC-led magazine during my time at university and have since passed the torch to a junior student designer that brings in new ideas to the team!
